Grande Prairie Friendship Centre seeking donations to help BC flood victims

Nov 22, 2021 | 12:33 PM

The Grande Prairie Friendship Centre is teaming up with the Nawican Friendship Centre in Dawson Creek to help fellow friendship centres which have been displaced from the landslides and floods in British Columbia.

Miranda Laroche, the Executive Director at the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, tells EverythingGP they’re accepting cash donations, as well as looking for various items.

“Dawson Creek reached out for support and we want to do whatever we can,” she said.

“Some of the donations they’re asking for is dry pasta and sauces, toiletries, non-perishable food items, frozen meals, diapers, wipes and formula, winter gear, clothing, and gift cards.”

Laroche says their goal is to help out friendship centres in need in the BC interior as much as they can.

“The Friendship Centre in Dawson Creek is coming this way to go through towards Highway 40 down to Penticton and Kamloops to help out the centre’s there, as they are getting a lot of the evacuees in those centres,” she explained.

“They’re actually going to take a convoy of vehicles with trailers and take the donations.”

While this is the only fundraiser they have right now, Laroche says they want to continue to help for as long as the situation continues.

“Our friendship centre will be donating towards the AFNDA fund to go towards all of the friendship centre’s in B.C. We will probably be doing more (fundraisers in the future) and I am sure we will be continuing to request and accept donations for B.C. as time goes on.”

Donations can be brought to the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre before Thursday, November 25.
