The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta(CPSA) has suspended a Grande Prairie surgeon for four months after he was found guilty of unprofessional conduct.

In a release, the CPSA says Dr. Wynand Wessels fashioned and hung a rope in the shape of a noose on an operating room door in 2016 which was reportedly directed at one or more of his colleagues.

The release adds that the hearing tribunal felt that by hanging the rope on the door of the operating room, it was Dr. Wessels intent to send a threatening message or warning to one or more individuals.

Dr. Wessels will also be financially responsible for 75 percent of the costs of the investigation, as well as the merits hearing and the sanction hearing.

The total of those costs was not announced.

The Grande Prairie RCMP General Investigation Section says they’ve also concluded that charges will not be laid in relation to this incident.

RCMP states there is no reasonable likelihood of conviction for any Criminal Code offence.

The decision was made following a thorough investigation and consultation with the Alberta Crown Prosecution Service.

The RCMP’s investigation into this matter is now closed.
