Workplace Fatality

OHS investigating workplace death of a pipeline worker

Dec 7, 2021 | 5:52 PM

An investigation into a workplace fatality that happened in the Peace Country last month is continuing.

“Occupational Health and Safety is investigating a workplace fatality that occurred on a pipeline site east of Grande Prairie. That happened on November 23. One worker died after being struck by equipment,” says Trent Bancarz, a spokesman with Alberta Labour and Immigration.

Bancarz mentioned because this is an active investigation, no other details about what happened, the person that died, or the companies involved, can be released. There is no stop-work order in place at the site.

He adds a fatality report will be posted online once it is completed.

“That is once any further legal proceedings or actions, if there are any, are completed. The report is shared with the next-of-kin and some time after that, we do post them on our website.”

Bancarz says by statute, investigations can take up to two years to complete. This time is to be used to determine if any other steps need to be taken.
