Steinke, John and Donna

John Rudolf Steinke and Donna May Steinke (nee Maxwell) long-time residents of Sexsmith, AB, passed away on Saturday, December 4, 2021. John was 90 years old and Donna was 81 years old.
John was born June 24, 1931, in Webster, AB, to Gus and Mary Steinke. Donna was born August 24,1940, in Wetaskiwin, AB, to Ian and Irene Maxwell. John and Donna were married on June 24, on John’s 30 birthday. They spent most of their union on the farm near Sexsmith, that they built together.
John and Donna were married for 60 blessed years and in the end could not be parted. They went everywhere together and, as it came to the end, their last journey was also together next adventure in heaven. They will be so missed by all that knew them.
The couple is survived by their three children: Dawn, Barry (Eunice Cummings), and Debbie (Dean Chudyk); grandchildren: Tasha Lunden, Shasta Cross, Samantha (Randy) Gillett, Renardo (Judit), Sharvone (Tia); John’s brother Ben (Shirley) Steinke; sister in-law Margaret (Floyd) Sloat; Donna’s sister Maureen (Ernie) Bosley; brother David (Sharon) Maxwell; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
John was predeceased by his parents Gus and Mary Steinke; sister Evelyn Haugland; brothers: Art, Fred and baby James; brothers in-law Leonard Rode and Herman Haugland; as well as nephew Russell Sloat.
Donna was predeceased by her parents Ian and Irene Maxwell; sister Jean Greenway; brothers in-law Forbes Greenway, Gary Drever; as well as nephew Brian Drever.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the nurses who took such wonderful care of both of our parents in the hospital. You are truly special people who cared for them with such kindness and thoughtfulness. To all of the staff and all the friends they made at Heritage Lodge, you have been amazing to them both for the past two years. They loved you as much as you loved them. Also, a thank you to Dr. Von Tonder for the care and visits to them as well.
Due to Covid restrictions, an invitation-only Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, at 11:00am, at Oliver’s Funeral Home in Grande Prairie (10005 107 Ave.). Interment to follow at Emmaus Lutheran Church Cemetery.
A Livestream of the service will be accessible 15 minutes prior to the service on John and Donna’s obituary on Oliver’s Funeral Home website.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Emmaus Lutheran Church Cemetery Society (Box 476, Sexsmith, AB, T0H 3C0).
