Grande Prairie chamber hosting session with Finance Minister Friday

Dec 9, 2021 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce is hosting a budget update and consultation with Alberta Finance Minister and GP-Wapiti MLA Travis Toews Friday morning.

Chamber Chair Tertius Genis says Grande Prairie has often served as an economic indicator.

“I think it will focus on that unemployment has gone down a little bit and the fiscal forecast (of the deficit) has been lowered about $2.4 billion.”

He adds the chamber would like to see the province focus on economic recovery in the next budget.

“Also, how will supply chain issues be addressed? Obviously, labour shortage is still an issue and what other restrictions related to COVID we can expect.”

Genis says this session can also be helpful for chamber officials.

“What we take away from it is that our members are present and then based on the questions and concerns brought forward, we can develop policies if needed. We can address issues that might come up and take that to government.”

The session starts at 8 a.m. at Centre 2000 with doors opening at 7:30 a.m. Sexsmith and Beaverlodge Chamber members are also invited. Registration is available here.
