Grovedale fire department hoping to ‘fill the truck’ for those in need

Dec 15, 2021 | 1:28 PM

The M.D. of Greenview’s fire station in Grovedale will be hoping for the community to help ‘fill the truck’ for those in need this holiday season on Saturday, December 18.

Crew members will be on hand at the station accepting donations from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday.

With other departments in the region trying to help those in need during the holidays, Regional Deputy Fire Chief for Grovedale Bill Parsons says they wanted to show their support for the community as well.

“Debolt has done it in the past because they have a food bank in the town. Grovedale doesn’t have anything because of the location to Grande Prairie, but it is something they (the crew members) wanted to participate in and show support for this cause,” he explained.

People are encouraged to drop off non-perishable food items for the ‘fill the truck’ event. Parsons adds you can also make cash donations, which will go directly to the Salvation Army’s food bank.

“If anyone has anything they can give out and donate then they can. They have a tap machine there that has increments of $5, $10 and $15. If anyone wants to do that instead of a food donation that is more than acceptable.”

Parsons hopes this will become an annual fundraiser for the fire department, so they can continue to play a role in helping the local community.

“We just wanted to kind of get together and try it,’ he said. “Hopefully we will make it an annual thing.”

If you are unable to make it to the event, you can donate by visiting the Grande Prairie Salvation Army website.
