Grande Prairie COVID-19 numbers stay mostly stable over Christmas break, Alberta records new daily record

Alberta is reporting a new daily record of 2,755 new cases of COVID-19 for December 28.

The record number of cases comes with a test positivity rate of 29.5 per cent on the completion of 9,398 tests. There are 17,396 active cases in the province.

There were 8,250 new cases reported in the province from the end of the day on December 23-27.

Local numbers were not reported on from the end of the day on December 23-28, but did remain relatively stable in both the City and County of Grande Prairie.

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 28 new COVID-19 cases along with 20 recoveries from December 23-28, bringing the total number of active cases in the Swan City up to 47.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were 23 new cases recorded and 15 recoveries over that same duration, bringing the active case total to 45 (up eight).

Active case totals, as of December 29 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 47 active (+8)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 37 active (+8)
  • MD of Greenview: three active (+3)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (+1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 23 active (+3)
  • Saddle Hills County: one active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 10 active (-2)
  • MD of Fairview: four active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: three active (+2)
  • Big Lakes County: five active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: zero active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: eight active (+5)
  • Northern Sunrise County: one active (-1)
  • Mackenzie County: three active (-6)

Across the province, hospitalizations grew to 349 (up 31), with 57 of those patients in the ICU (down seven). Of those in the hospital, 151 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 42 of the 57 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 35 people are in hospital (down two), three of whom are in the ICU (down two).

In Grande Prairie, 69 per cent of those eligible (ages five and older) have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 63.4 per cent of those residents have been fully vaccinated.

In Alberta, 89.2 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 85.2 per cent of those eligible are fully vaccinated.
