Alberta surpasses one million COVID-19 booster doses administered

Jan 6, 2022 | 10:31 AM

Over one million Albertans have now received a booster dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

Booster doses have been recommended by Alberta Health Services (AHS) for anyone who received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at least five months ago.

AHS says third doses of the vaccine add extra protection against COVID-19, specifically against the Omicron variant which is spreading like wildfire throughout the province.

Currently, there are no patients in the ICU across the province who have received three doses of the vaccine.

“One million Albertans have made the effort to help protect themselves and our hospitals. I want to thank everyone who’s gotten all three doses as well as the dedicated health-care providers who continue working hard to administer the vaccine. Working together, we will protect our health-care system and all Albertans,” said Minister of Health for the province Jason Copping.

Anyone over the age of 18 can book an appointment to receive a booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Albertans 12 years and older who are immunocompromised can also book an appointment for a booster but must wait at least eight weeks after their second dose.

Across the province, 89.4 per cent of the population has received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine.

You can book your appointment through the AHS website.
