Playoff match-ups decided at curling provincials

The playoff teams have been decided at the Best of Alberta women’s and men’s curling provincials being played at the Bonnetts Energy Centre.

Kelsey Rocque will play Casey Scheidegger at 2:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the women’s semi-final. This will be a rematch from the final round-robin draw Friday afternoon where Rocque scored three coming home to beat Scheidegger 7-6. Grande Prairie’s Kristi Moore and Cary-Anne McTaggart are on Team Scheidegger.

The winner will play Laura Walker in the final Sunday morning at 11 a.m. Walker won her final round-robin game 8-4 over Selena Sturmay.

Walker, Rocque and Scheidegger all finished the round-robin with 6-1 records.

Melissa Pierce finished 2-5 on the tournament after beating Elysa Crough 9-4. Spirit River’s Kelly Erickson is the Pierce team’s lead.

Kayla Skrlik will wind up 1-6 after a 5-2 loss to Adele Kezama-Purcell. Skrlik and her lead, sister Ashton Skrlik, are originally from Nampa.

The last two men’s playoff teams were decided in the C Event qualifiers Friday evening.

Ted Appleman beat Scott Webb’s Sexsmith-based rink 9-3 in seven ends and Karsten Sturmay won 8-5 over Ryan Jacques. Dawson Creek product Tristan Steinke is on the Sturmay team. They now meet Appleman in the 3-4 Page playoff game.

Former Grande Prairie resident Kevin Koe and his team play Jeremy Harty in the 1-2 game.

Both will be played at 9 a.m. Saturday.
