Quebec public health director resigns, cities erosion of public opinion over measures

Jan 10, 2022 | 7:23 PM

MONTREAL — Quebec’s director of public health, Dr. Horacio Arruda, has tendered his resignation.

Premier François Legault accepted, with Arruda’s departure confirmed to The Canadian Press by the premier’s office this evening.

In a letter dated today, Arruda wrote that comments about the credibility of their opinions and scientific rigor have caused a “certain erosion” in public support and he considered it appropriate to offer Legault the possibility of replacing him before the end of his term.

Legault will hold a news conference on Tuesday at 1 p.m. to address the departure.
