Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association unveils new look

Jan 15, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association introduced a new look this past week to kick-off 2022.

The Tourism Association unveiled a new logo at a banquet on Thursday, celebrating a new era for tourism in the Peace Region.

“Over the last two years tourism has been one of the hardest-hit industry’s in the province and country,” said Johnathan Clarkson, the President and Chair of the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association.

“Our previous logo wasn’t even a logo at all, it was a passport stamp created for the tourism guide. This is something that can carry us forward with a brand that is professional and really speaks and represents our region. We can’t wait to represent the nine municipal partners of the region as we look forward.”

Clarkson’s hopeful that by rebranding their look, they can hit the ground running in 2022, getting tourism back up to normal levels.

“Over the last two years, we’ve launched a campaign called the ‘Grande Plan’. That was a campaign that got people out and exploring our region for those local gems. We are excited to carry that forward and really build on that.”

Clarkson mentioned they do have some goals they would like to accomplish over the next year.

“With regards to tourism going forward, coming into the summer and years ahead, Travel Alberta has identified outlying areas in the province, northwest Alberta being one of them, as one of those areas of opportunity for the province to really expand their offering. As we move forward, we really want to start to collaborate more and look for opportunities for experience and product development in our region.”

In order to grow the tourism sector in the Peace Region, Clarkson says they plan to work with local businesses and operators to help tell their story and get that information to the province, country, and eventually the world.

Clarkson added they also want to continue to advance their destination management plan and take that to the next step as they continue to work with their partners in the region.

On Thursday at their banquet, the Grande Prairie Regional Tourism Association also posted a new video to encourage tourism in the Peace Region.
