Warkentin opposed of vaccine mandate for truckers

Grande Prairie-Mackenzie MP Chris Warkentin says he is opposed to the current vaccine mandate for truckers.

The vaccine mandate for cross-border truck drivers took effect in Canada on January 15.

Warkentin says this decision by the federal government will have an impact on Canadians and Peace Region residents.

“This couldn’t have come at a worse time and will ultimately drive up the cost of everyday goods. From auto parts to furniture, appliances to food imports, everything moves by truck, but there are now fewer drivers” said Warkentin.

Warkentin’s statement goes on to say Trudeau is showing he does not care about the consequences of his actions and thinks his government should do the right thing and remove the policy.

“The government should back off on the mandate because it will only increase shipping costs and further hinder an already weak supply chain. The Liberals are making a bad situation far worse but, they are experts at that,” said Warkentin.

“Truckers have been the unsung heroes for the past two years, keeping our economy running and getting us the goods we need. There is no evidence that they have been a health risk to anyone.”
