Nominations open for 2022 Women of Influence Awards

Jan 29, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is now accepting nominations for the 2022 Women of Influence Awards.

The annual awards are meant to honour and recognize local women who have made a strong impact by promoting equality, providing opportunities for women in the community and breaking barriers through the field.

“We had started the Women of Influence Awards back in 2018 and it really is an opportunity to highlight women’s achievement in our region and also to commemorate International Women’s Day, which falls on March 8,” said Manager of Community Social Development Angela Sutherland.

Women within the community can be nominated for awards in three different categories:

Awards are available in the following categories:

  • Young Woman of Influence (Under 30 years old)
  • Trailblazing Woman of Influence (31-49 years old)
  • Distinguished Woman of Influence (50+ years old)

“The awards are open to women of all backgrounds, experiences and industries,” she said. “We really want to have this opportunity for people in our community to recognize women they know, who have made an impact.”

You can nominate someone by visiting the City of Grande Prairie’s website.

Sutherland tells EverythingGP the community usually shows lots of support for the awards as they normally get between 25-30 nominations.

As mentioned, an event to celebrate the nominees and winners of the 2022 Women of Influence Awards will be held on March 8 to also celebrate International Women’s Day.

While the award ceremony will be held virtually for the second consecutive year, Sutherland says it is still important for them to take the time to celebrate all women do in our region.

“Unfortunately, we have to do it virtually again this year, but I think it’s something that the community has garnered support for because it’s important to recognize our local women who’ve made a strong impact in our community.”

The deadline to register for the awards is set for February 15.
