Grande Prairie records 37 COVID-19 recoveries, 25 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie added 25 new COVID-19 cases and 37 recoveries for February 8. There are 441 active cases in the city (down 12).

The County of Grande Prairie added 12 new cases of COVID-19 along with 18 recoveries on Monday, there are 177 active cases remaining in that region (down six).

Across Alberta, 1,684 new cases were identified from 5,748 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 29.2 per cent. There are currently 26,896 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 8 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 441 active (-12)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 177 active (-12)
  • MD of Greenview: 86 active (-10)
  • Birch Hills County: three active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 13 active (-3)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 105 active (+16)
  • MD of Fairview: 31 active (-3)
  • MD of Smoky River: 73 active (-)
  • Big Lakes County: 96 active (-7)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (-1)
  • County of Northern Lights: 12 active (-3)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 18 active (-)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by eight patients to 1,615, while the number of ICU patients increased to 135 (up six). Of those in the hospital, 408 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 65 of the 135 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 130 people are in hospital (up three), eight of whom are in the ICU (up two).

There were ten COVID-19 related deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,696.

So far, 89.9 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.3 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
