Grande Prairie records 21 new COVID-19 cases, 26 recoveries

The City of Grande Prairie added 21 new COVID-19 cases and 26 recoveries for February 9. There are now 435 active cases in the city (down 6).

The County of Grande Prairie added eight new cases along with 23 recoveries on Wednesday. It now has 162 active cases (down 15).

Across Alberta, 1,363 new cases were identified from 4,986 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 27.3 per cent. There are currently 25,339 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 9 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 435 active (-6)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 162 active (-15)
  • MD of Greenview: 82 active (-4)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (-1)
  • MD of Spirit River: 12 active (-1)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (-)
  • MD of Peace: 107 active (+2)
  • MD of Fairview: 33 active (+2)
  • MD of Smoky River: 76 active (+3)
  • Big Lakes County: 100 active (+4)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 12 active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: 17 active (-1)
  • Mackenzie County: 76 active (+11)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by 29 patients to 1,586 while the number of ICU patients decreased to 126 (down six). Of those in the hospital, 418 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 56 of the 126 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 134 people are in hospital (up four), eight of whom are in the ICU (same).

There were 22 COVID-19 related deaths were reported to Alberta Health over the past 24 hours, bringing the province’s COVID-19 death toll to 3,718. Of the 22 deaths, three were reported in the North Zone.

So far, 89.9 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.3 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
