Grande Prairie records 26 recovered COVID-19 cases, eight new

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 26 COVID-19 recoveries and eight new cases from February 23. There are 171 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie there were three recoveries and four new cases identified Wednesday. There are 145 active cases in the county.

Over the last 24 hours, Alberta added 682 new cases from 3,436 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 19.8 per cent. There are currently 10,626 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 23 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 189 active (-18)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 145 active (+1)
  • MD of Greenview: 61 active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: two active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 10 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: five active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 105 active (-2)
  • MD of Fairview: 85 active (+1)
  • MD of Smoky River: 34 active (+9)
  • Big Lakes County: 66 active (-)
  • Clear Hills County: three active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: 11 active (-)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eleven active (+3)
  • Mackenzie County: 85 active (+4)

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by 16 patients to 1,357, while 92 of those patients are in the ICU (up two). Of those in the hospital, 358 are unvaccinated, while in the ICU, 46 of the 92 patients are unvaccinated.

In the North Zone, 138 people are in hospital (down nine), four of whom are in the ICU (same).

There were two COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health from February 23, bringing the province COVID-19 death toll to 3,885.

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.5 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
