Grande Prairie records 21 COVID-19 recoveries, 11 new cases

The City of Grande Prairie recorded 21 COVID-19 recoveries and 11 new cases from February 24. There are 161 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were seven recoveries and 25 new cases identified Thursday. There are 163 active cases in the county.

Over the last 24 hours, Alberta added 595 new cases from 3,175 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 18.7 per cent. There are currently 10,112 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of February 24 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 171 active
  • County of Grande Prairie: 163 active
  • MD of Greenview: 60 active
  • Birch Hills County: two active
  • MD of Spirit River: 14 active
  • Saddle Hills County: five active
  • MD of Peace: 114 active
  • MD of Fairview: 83 active
  • MD of Smoky River: 11 active
  • Big Lakes County: 60 active
  • Clear Hills County: five active
  • County of Northern Lights: 11 active
  • Northern Sunrise County: four active
  • Mackenzie County: 87 active

The province saw hospitalizations decrease by 62 patients to 1,245, while 88 of those patients are in the ICU (down four).

In the North Zone, 135 people are in hospital (down three), five of whom are in the ICU (up one).

There were 13 COVID-19 related deaths reported to Alberta Health from February 24, bringing the province COVID-19 death toll to 3,898.

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.5 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
