Construction begins on new heated transit shelter at Eastlink Centre

Mar 4, 2022 | 3:58 PM

City Hall says phase one of construction of a new accessible heated transit shelter at the Eastlink Centre has started.

It will be located in the west parking lot, with construction to be completed in two phases.

Phase one will include the transit shelter construction, which is expected to be completed by the end of March.

Phase two will begin following the completion of the shelter, which will include setting the shelter up for heat. The city says this will require more time as crews will need to upgrade the electrical infrastructure.

The shelter is set to include a swinging door on one side and a mechanical door on the other side, which administration says will make it fully accessible to all community members.

“Eastlink Centre visitors are advised that four parking spots next to the transit stop on the west side of the Eastlink Centre are currently unavailable due to the construction,” said the city in a release.

“The City is installing the new heated shelter to improve customer experience and give passengers a comfortable place to wait for their bus during the harsh winter months.”
