County of Grande Prairie records 19th COVID-19 death, city adds 12 recoveries

The County of Grande Prairie recorded its 19th COVID-19 related death. The death was one of six reported to Alberta Health over the last 24 hours, bringing the province’s COVID-19 related death toll to 3,992.

Meantime, the County of Grande Prairie recorded one new COVID-19 case and 32 recoveries for Wednesday. There are now 56 active cases in the county.

Meantime, the City of Grande Prairie recorded three new COVID-19 cases and 12 recoveries for March 9. There are 75 active cases in the city.

Alberta added 552 new cases from 3,049 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 18.1 per cent. There are currently 6,889 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 8 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 75 active (-9)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 56 active (-32)
  • MD of Greenview: 30 active (-1)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 10 active (-4)
  • Saddle Hills County: two active (-1)
  • MD of Peace: 73 active (-19)
  • MD of Fairview: 29 active (-4)
  • MD of Smoky River: 11 active (+1)
  • Big Lakes County: 69 active (+5)
  • Clear Hills County: four active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: five active (-1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: eight active (-)
  • Mackenzie County: 44 active (-1)

The province saw hospitalizations increase to 1,067 (down 20), with 76 of those patients in the ICU (down two).

In the North Zone, 130 people are in hospital (same), six of whom are in the ICU (same).

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.6 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
