Grande Prairie records two COVID-19 related deaths over weekend, 17 new cases

Grande Prairie recorded a total of two COVID-19 related deaths from Mar. 11-13. The deaths were two of 18 reported by the province over the weekend. To date, 4,021 COVID-19 related deaths have been reported by the province.

Meantime, the City of Grande Prairie recorded 17 new COVID-19 cases and 12 recoveries over the weekend. There are 81 active cases in the city.

In the County of Grande Prairie, there were nine new COVID-19 cases and 13 recoveries identified. There are now 45 active cases in that region.

Alberta added 1,351 new cases from 6,769 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 19.9 per cent. There are currently 6,6640 active cases in the province.

Provincial officials say with the rollout of rapid tests to most households, the actual number of new COVID-19 infections in the province is likely higher than what is being reported.

Active case totals, as of March 13 among Peace Region municipalities, are as follows:

  • City of Grande Prairie: 81 active (+3)
  • County of Grande Prairie: 45 active (-4)
  • MD of Greenview: 29 active (-)
  • Birch Hills County: one active (-)
  • MD of Spirit River: 17 active (-)
  • Saddle Hills County: four active (+1)
  • MD of Peace: 52 active (-3)
  • MD of Fairview: 19 active (-)
  • MD of Smoky River: 12 active (+1)
  • Big Lakes County: 64 active (-3)
  • Clear Hills County: five active (-)
  • County of Northern Lights: two active (-1)
  • Northern Sunrise County: five active (-2)
  • Mackenzie County: 31 active (-10)

The province saw hospitalizations decline to 986 (down 59), with 73 of those patients in the ICU (down one).

In the North Zone, 124 people are in hospital (down six), four of whom are in the ICU (down one).

So far, 90.1 per cent of eligible Albertans aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of the vaccine, while 86.6 per cent of those eligible have received at least two doses.
