Preliminary hearing date set in murder case

Alberta Justice says preliminary hearing dates have been set for a man charged with murder after the death of another man at Sucker Creek First Nation.

The hearing for Tyler Myles Melnyk is scheduled for February 28 to March 3, 2023, in High Prairie court. Melnyk is also facing a charge of forcible confinement.

RCMP said at the time that on November 19, 2021, they were called out after a report of an assault with a weapon at a Sucker Creek home.

A 35-year-old man was found dead inside the home.

Details like what kind of weapon may have been used were not released.

Probation, one day in jail, after illegal online purchases

Alberta Justice says a sentence has been given out after someone used someone else’s credit cards and ID to buy things online.

Austin Haynes was given one-year probation after pleading guilty to a charge of possession of break-in instruments on March 16 at Grande Prairie court. He was also given one day in jail, time served, for another charge. Eight others related to forgery were withdrawn.

Haynes was arrested on December 14, 2020, after a complaint three days earlier about the illegal online purchases

RCMP said at the time they seized identification, debit and credit cards, social insurance numbers belonging to other people, break-in tools, forged documents, and items illegally purchased.
