STARS has announced Birchcliff Energy has provided them with a $1.5 million donation to help them secure a new H145 helicopter that will serve the Grande Prairie region.

Back in 2018, STARS’ launched the Keep The Fight in Flight campaign across western Canada, as a way to help renew STARS’ current aging fleet of helicopters and replace them with H145 helicopters.

Each new helicopter comes with a price tag of $13 million.

Birchcliff Energy says following this donation, it has now donated $3.6 million to STARS over the last 15 years.

“Birchcliff is proud to be a long-term supporter of STARS,” said Jeff Tonken, Chief Executive Officer of Birchcliff Energy.

“The health and safety of our employees, our contractors and the communities where we operate is of paramount importance to Birchcliff, and STARS is a critical service that provides a vital health link to communities throughout northern Alberta. Our ability to make this gift to STARS is a direct result of the hard work and successful execution of our business plan by Birchcliff’s employees.”

STARS says it relies on donations like this in order to keep itself operating and providing this essential service to residents in northern Alberta and B.C.

STARS mentioned it has flown hundreds of missions in new helicopters since receiving the first of its new fleet in 2019. All six STARS bases across western Canada are expected to receive a new helicopter later this year.
