City and County of Grande Prairie encouraging residents to take part in Earth Day festivities

Apr 5, 2022 | 12:27 PM

The City and County of Grande Prairie are teaming up and encouraging residents to come down to Teresa Sargent Hall at the Montrose Cultural Centre to celebrate Earth Day on April 22.

An Earth Day event will run from 2-8 p.m. and feature learning opportunities, demonstrations from local businesses and activities for people of all ages, including:

  • An electric vehicle showcase demonstrating the benefits and possibilities of owning an electric vehicle and how they work in a northern climate.
  • Local beekeepers with a live hive full of bees to learn about pollinators and pollinator health, as well as how residents can start their own hive.
  • An ATCO booth provides information about how to reduce energy consumption and reduce energy bills.
  • The return of GP Grows with a customizable seed bar
  • A draw for a chance to win a Go City Foldable Electric Bike.

To help decrease our city’s carbon footprint, the city will be offering free public transit throughout the day for commuters.

GP Grows will also be returning to the city as part of their Earth Day celebrations with a GP Grows Seed Bar. The Seed Bar allows residents to select from 13 different seed varieties they can use for their customer garden.

Residents can also learn about supporting the growth of these plants and take home a customized seed growing kit to play at home.
