Alberta Justice says two of the people charged in a 2019 drug seizure in Grande Prairie have been sentenced.

Both men are from Calgary and were sentenced in Calgary court March 25.

They were among four people arrested after searches at what RCMP called at the time three separate locations in Grande Prairie.

Police seized crack, fentanyl. around $41,000 cash, and an imitation firearm.

Charges against the other two, Vincent Mark Eversley-Anthony of Winnipeg and Kenneth Stower of Calgary, were withdrawn in October of 2019.

Second person sentenced in gun trafficking case

Alberta Justice says a second person charged in a 2019 gun trafficking arrest has been sentenced.

Hailey Badger pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of a firearm in a vehicle March 21 in Grande Prairie court and was given a two-year conditional sentence order. Four other charges, including one of possession for the purpose of weapons trafficking, were withdrawn.

Badger was one of three people charged after an ALERT drugs and weapons seizure on May 13, 2019, in the parking lot of what police described as a Grande Prairie shopping centre.

ALERT said the investigation was into a case of straw purchasing where someone with a valid license buys firearms for someone who can’t or doesn’t want their name involved in the transaction.

Police seized four firearms, a rifle, ammunition, over 800 grams of cocaine and close to $5,700 cash.

A second person charged, Loriann Vegso, was given a three-year jail sentence in March after pleading guilty to a charge of weapons trafficking.

A warrant has been out for the third accused, Dustin Prinz, since he failed to show up for court September 27, 2021.

One person sentenced in stolen property seizure

Alberta Justice says one of the four people charged after a stolen property seizure near Valleyview has been given a $2,000 fine.

Scott Allan Gervais pleaded guilty to a charge of contravening storage regulations for firearms April 7 in Valleyview court. Eighteen other charges, including multiple counts of possession of stolen property under $5,000 and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, were withdrawn.

Nine charges against another accused, Stephanie Catherine Payou and three against Keyva Griko were withdrawn at the same time.

They were all charged after an October 20, 2020, search at a property south of Valleyview.

RCMP said at the time that five loaded firearms, drugs and stolen property were all seized.

A warrant has been out for the fourth person arrested, Russell Gene Knight, since he did not show up for a December 17, 2020, court appearance.
