CFIA confirms avian influenza present in Alberta

Apr 18, 2022 | 12:14 PM

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has confirmed the presence bird flu in more locations in Alberta and Saskatchewan.

The agency reported over the weekend that highly pathogenic avian influenza was identified late last week in poultry flocks in Alberta in Mountain View County, Warner County and Cardston County.

It says the virus was also confirmed Thursday in a small flock in the R-M of Moose Mountain Number 63 in Saskatchewan, and in a poultry flock in the Rural Municipality of Loreburn No. 254 in that province on Saturday.

The CFIA has said avian influenza is not a significant public health concern for healthy people who are not in regular contact with infected birds.
