Chamber ready to host second State of the Region Friday

Apr 21, 2022 | 5:00 AM

Mayor Jackie Clayton for the City of Grande Prairie, Reeve Leanne Beaupre for the County of Grande Prairie and Reeve Tyler Olson for the MD of Greenview will be joining the Grande Prairie’s Chamber of Commerce this Friday at the 2022 State of the Region.

This year’s event will be a hybrid of in-person and virtual attendance after being strictly online last year due to pandemic restrictions.

The Chamber of Commerce Board Chair, Tertius Genis says the second annual event will see them focusing on five key themes:

  • Economic development
  • Community programs
  • Infrastructure
  • Advocacy
  • Intermunicipal collaboration.

Genis notes with the situation of public health measures lifting, the economic outlook for the region has been looking better.

“Especially now, we are operating in an environment with less restrictions. We have a number of major projects that I would say almost, to pinpoint, have come to fruition and we hope to hear some updates of those projects,” he said.

“Basically it’s a regional approach from the city, the MD and the county in sharing the services, usages and activities in our area,” Genis added.

Genis feels the event is going to be better this year.

“This year, we have a hybrid of virtual and in-person. I think it’s just gonna be adding to an event that’s really gonna be, I think very fruitful and everybody is looking forward to hear some good news from all the participants,”

The State of the Region 2022 is at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Grande Prairie Airport from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on April 22.

The Chamber says there may still be some tickets may available by calling the office at 780-532-5340
