Covid-19 update: two Covid-19 related deaths in City and County of Grande Prairie

Two deaths due to Covid-19 have been reported in this area, with one in the City of Grande Prairie and one in the County of Grande Prairie according to Alberta Health.

Grande Prairie recorded 40 new cases of COVID-19 over the past seven days, while the County of Grande Prairie saw 13 new cases confirmed since Wednesday last week.

It is not known how many active COVID-19 cases there are in the city or county because of the move to weekly numbers.

The last week saw Alberta add 4,551 new cases following the completion of 21,879 tests, resulting in a test positivity rate of 20.7% per cent, down from 23% last week.

Across the province, hospitalizations fell by 42 in the last week to 1,225, while the number of patients with COVID-19 in the ICU dropped by nine to 37.

There were 70 COVID-19-related deaths reported across Alberta last week. This brings Alberta’s COVID-19 death toll to 4,391.

Health Minister Jason Copping says as of Wednesday, eligibility for Paxlovid will be expanded for “people age 60 or older and FNMI people age 50 years and older with two or fewer doses of Covid-19 vaccine and at least one pre-existing condition, and people age 70 and older and FNMI people age 60 years and older with three or fewer doses of vaccine and at two or more pre-existing conditions.”

The province released a new campaign last week to promote getting your booster vaccine called “It’s Time to Get Your Third Dose.” Copping says the objective is to “have more Albertans boost their protection against severe outcomes of Covid.”
