Outdoor pool to open May 27

May 17, 2022 | 6:00 AM

City Hall says the outdoor pool is Muskoseepi Park will open May 27.

City Hall community services director Arlen Miller says the spring weather has held up getting it ready.

“We had that late snowfall and the cooler, wet weather. We have to de-winterize it. The facility is open to the elements during the winter, so it fills up with snow and ice, so we have a crew of our city staff as well as some contractors working very hard to de-winterize it and make sure all the systems are working properly.”

Miller says it also takes time to fill the pool. It also has to be heated and testing must be done to make sure it meets Alberta Health Services regulations.

“If the weather was really cooperative, we could have had it open for the May long weekend, but the weather hasn’t been that favourable, so we’re really trying hard for May 27 to have it open to the public.”

Miller adds better weather later on could mean an extension of the season.

“If we have a nice fall, late summer and early fall, and the weather is really cooperative, then we can certainly look at extending the season for the residents as well.”

Miller says the city is looking at adding more programming this year but did not give details.
