One injured in fire at Tolko Industries high Prairie mill

Damage assessments are still being done after an early Friday morning fire at Tolko’s mill west of High Prairie.

Emergency crews were called to the scene at around 5 am Friday morning and the mill was evacuated.

A release from the company says the initial investigation shows the fire appeared to have started when a small pipe carrying thermal oil broke, and the thermal oil ignited.

One person was injured and briefly sent to hospital before being released.

A structural engineer assessed the site over the weekend to determine when it would be safe to begin repairs.

The company says its fire suppression systems helped keep it from spreading to other parts of the mill outside of the press area.
