It is with both gratitude for a life well lived and sadness to have had to say good-bye to Larry M Johnson, in the wee hours of March 1, 2022 at the age of 90.
Larry was born in Edmonton, Alberta and raised in the community of Northfield (La Glace), Alberta. He was the youngest son of Norwegian pioneers Hilmar and Inga Johnson, brother to Marvin (Bernice) Johnson, Adeline (Torleiv) Olderskog, and Olive (Alvin) Bangen.
Larry moved to Grande Prairie as a young man of 20 to begin working for the Hudson’s Bay Company. His career with the Hudson’s Bay spanned 34 years in eight different communities throughout BC and Alberta.
Larry married Isabel Penney of Huallen Alberta in 1957. Together they raised three daughters, Joanne (Martin), Tracy (Dean) and Susan (Brent) and were married for 33 years.
In 1987, Larry began a second career with the Investors Group in Grande Prairie where he opened the first office in the region. This 15-year career allowed Larry to enjoy some international travel, spend more time with family and friends and semi-retire to Arizona to golf in the winters.
Larry enjoyed many years of his youth and adulthood playing hockey in the communities of LaGlace, Valhalla, and Grande Prairie Alberta, and Dawson Creek and Fort St. John BC. Larry also enjoyed curling, snowmobiling, quading, and golf.
Larry’s final career move was as a Marshal for the Dunes Golf Course in Grande Prairie Alberta. He fully retired at the age of 81.
In 2012, Larry married Kae (McPeak) Earl. They lived in Wembly Alberta until 2017 when Larry and Kae moved to Vernon BC, where Larry passed away in North Okanagan Hospice House.
Larry leaves to mourn his wife, daughters, son-in-laws, brother and sister in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, grand-children, great grand-children, great nieces and nephews and friends of all ages.
Among many qualities about our father, we miss his smile and love for family and friends.
Please join Larry’s family in remembering his life on June 11, 2022 at the Calvary Lutheran Church in LaGlace Alberta, the place where Larry was baptized, confirmed, married and to be laid to rest.
The service will begin at 1:00pm with a reception at the hall and interment of ashes in the Northfield cemetery to follow.
