Trial dates set in murder case

Alberta Justice says trial dates have been set in a Grande Prairie murder case.

The trial for Paul Tamasi is set for May 29 to June 17, 2023 in Grande Prairie court.

Tamasi was charged in March of 2021 after the 2013 death of wife Karen Jordan.

Jordan had been reported missing and was last seen in November 2013.

Her remains were found after ground searches near Wembley in September of 2020.

Two-year sentence in child pornography case

A provincial court in New Brunswick has handed a two-year prison sentence to a man charged after a child pornography arrest in Grande Prairie

The court in Miramichi handed Ryan Cody Matchett the sentence after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of child pornography. Another count of distribution of child pornography was withdrawn.

Matchett was arrested in December of 2020 after an investigation that started in 2018.

Grande Prairie RCMP said at the time that the investigation started in late 2018 after they were notified by the Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation unit of child pornography images being uploaded to social media.

In December of 2019 RCMP seized what they called numerous electronic devices and phones after a search of a home in the Westpointe area.

Matchett and Melissa Murdock were arrested in December of 2020.

All the charges against Murdock were withdrawn in September of 2021.

Charges dismissed against man accused of firing a shot at RCMP

Alberta Justice says charges against a man accused of taking a shot at RCMP members have been dismissed.

The charges against Brandon Lee Munro were dismissed June 2 in Valleyview court. The charges had included intentionally discharging a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and pointing a firearm.

Valleyview RCMP said at the time that on October 1, 2021, they were investigating the recovery of some stolen property on Sturgeon Lake Cree Nation. Police say a pick-up drove onto the property and someone in the truck fired a shot at police before it took off.

Munro had earlier been given 30 days in jail time served for pleading guilty to a count of operating a vehicle while prohibited, where police allege he was in a stolen vehicle.

He has two more trials coming up.

One in August is related to an incident involving a firearm in a stolen vehicle. The other in September is related to an incident where a vehicle fled from a traffic stop and a firearm was later found inside the same vehicle.

Stay of proceedings in stolen property investigation

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is now in place against three people charged after the recovery of some stolen property.

Jessica Hollands, Andrew MacPherson, and Jeremy MacNaughton were all charged with possession of property obtained by crime after numerous stolen items were recovered after a search near Dimsdale on December 29, 2021.

RCMP said at the time that items recovered included a pick-up, an ATV, two cargo trailers, firearms, drugs and cash.

Proceedings can start again if new evidence is found within a year.
