Two Beaverlodge residents win big in span of a month

Beaverlodge may be the luckiest place in Alberta for lottery numbers with two residents winning within the last month.

A $1 million winning ticket was sold to Beaverlodge farmer, Gary Scorgie, and a $500,000 ticket was sold to resident of Beaverlodge, Dorothy Atkinson.

Scorgie bought his ticket on May 26 from the Esso at 310 – 1 Avenue in Beaverlodge and waited three weeks to find out he had won $1 million.

Scorgie said “it’s been a few extremely hard years of farming,” he is going to sit on his windfall until he sees how his crops do this year, but looks forward to bringing all 19 of his family members to Hawaii.

Dorthory Atkinson bought her ticket on June 7, the day of the draw, at the Ace Hardware at 108 – 10 Street in Beaverlodge.

After matching all seven numbers to one of the MAXMILLIONS prizes, Atkison became 500,000 dollars richer.

Atkison said her winning numbers 14, 18, 20, 22, 37, 42, and 43 are the same she’s always been using after having a dream about them many years ago.

When asked what she wanted to do with the money, she said she would like to pay off some bills, go on a trip with her family and save for retirement.

Atkinson shares her winnings with another ticket sold in Calgary.
