Five-year sentence in gun trafficking arrest

Alberta Justice says a Grande Prairie woman charged in connection with illegal gun sales has been given a five-year jail s sentence.

Misty Kohuch was sentenced July 4 in Grande Prairie court on four counts of illegally selling weapons after being found guilty earlier.

Kohuch was also given a fine for possession of a controlled substance.

Kohuch was charged after an ALERT bust in October of 2019.

ALERT said at the time Kohuch had legally acquired several handguns then sold them on the criminal market. ALERT alleged at the time that Kohuch had obtained five handguns from July to October 2019, including one on the day of her arrest.

A search of her vehicle also turned up cocaine and fentanyl.

Stay of proceedings in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says a stay of proceedings is now in place in the case of a drug arrest from earlier this year.

Dursa Moume Tofik from Edmonton was facing 10 charges, including three of possession for the purpose of trafficking and seven weapons charges.

Tofik was charged after a January 27, 2022 search in Grande Prairie.

Police seized over two kilograms of cocaine, 195 oxycodone pills, 60 alprazolam pills, a handgun, and $10,000 cash.

The case can resume if new evidence is found within a year.

Trial date set in drug arrest

Alberta Justice says trial dates have been set for two people charged after a drug arrest.

The trial for Mohammed Muntasar Dawood and Hussain Ali Matroud is set for June 27 to 30, 2023 in Grande Prairie court.

They have both been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of stolen property.

An ALERT release at the time said police seized 524 grams of cocaine, 137 oxycodone tablets and more than $9200 cash after a search of an apartment and a vehicle on February 25, 2021.
