Rogers apologizes for outage, no word yet when it will be resolved

Jul 8, 2022 | 3:32 PM

There is still no word from Rogers on when it might be able to resolve a widespread network outage that has left many customers without mobile and internet service.

Rogers has apologized for the outage, which has also caused trouble for 9-1-1 services, retailers accepting debit payments, transit operators and even Service Canada’s beleaguered passport offices — but it has offered no explanation for the problem.

Federal Industry Minister Francois-Philippe Champagne says the government has been in contact with the company to express how important it is that the outage be resolved as soon as possible and to provide clear communication directly to those impacted.

Champagne says the government will use any tools at its disposal to ensure Canadians stay connected, but he did not specify what those tools might be.

Alberta RCMP say they are not impacted by the Rogers outage.

Police say the communications centre is operating as usual and 911 calls are still being taken, although Rogers customers will not be able to connect with 911 operators.
