Wildfire hazard rating increased to High for Grande Prairie region

Jul 11, 2022 | 10:55 AM

Windy conditions in recent days and in the days ahead have led the province to increase the wildfire hazard rating in the Grande Prairie Forest Management area to high.

Residents are cautioned that wildfires can spread quickly in windy conditions, so particular caution should be paid to activities such as operating off-highway vehicles, welding outdoors, or anything that involves dragging chains.

So far this year, there have been a total of 28 wildfires in the Grande Prairie forest management area, burning a total of 8.86 hectares. All but one of those fires have been extinguished, while that lone other fire has been turned over to the responsible party.
