United Way Alberta Northwest names Peace Country local as Executive Director

Jul 17, 2022 | 7:00 AM

A new executive director has been named for United Way Alberta Northwest.

Peace Country local Tracy Zuk has been selected for the position and has been working at the United Way for a while, most recently as the Resource Development Manager.

Les Riewe, Board Chair for United Way Alberta Northwest says Zuk’s previous experience played a major in her getting the executive director role.

“One of the things is Tracy’s experience with the United Way that she already has and her passion for her non-profits in the Peace Country. Her being part of our team already, it was a really nice transitional fit for us as a board.”

“We’re a board that’s going through a little transition, I’m a new executive chair as of a couple of weeks, and we got some new board members and it was just a nice fit.”

Riewe said this opportunity opened up for Zuk when Jamie Craig stepped down to move her family back to her family farm to take over operations.

Zuk has an extensive history with non-profits in the region, being the vice president of the Troyanda Society of Ukrainian Culture and Heritage, a member of the Swan Lake Rotary Club, and sits on the committees for lotteries and the Grande Prairie Wellness Centre.

Riewe said hiring Zuk is the first step to getting back on the ground in helping local non-profits after Covid-19 put their initiatives on hold…

“As we work to build the United Way up post-pandemic obviously (familiar) faces in the community is going to be a key factor in that and when you already are a face in the community it’s a lot easier when you have those contacts and everything else.”

Riewe added Zuk already being a part of their team at United Way has eased this transition for everyone on the board and made life easier for a lot of their new members.
