WILDFIRE

Out-of-control wildfire burning west of Fox Creek.

Jul 29, 2022 | 9:51 AM

Wildfire crews continue to work on an out-of-control blaze currently burning approximately 61 kilometres west of Fox Creek.

The fire is estimated to be about 25 hectares in size.

13 firefighters are working on the wildfire, along with three helicopters and several pieces of heavy equipment.

Airtankers have laid fire retardant around the majority of the fire, and have been successful in slowing the spread of the blaze while also dousing hotspots.

Bucketing operations from helicopters will continue Friday to support work being done on the ground to try and bring the fire under control.

The wildfire hazard for the Grande Prairie forest management area remains very high going into the long weekend.

A fire advisory is in place throughout the entire Grande Prairie forest management area, while separate fire advisories have also been issued by both the City and County of Grande Prairie.
