RCMP say children who are subject of Amber Alert are in danger

Aug 9, 2022 | 4:27 PM

Saskatchewan RCMP say the safety of two young children is at stake and are appealing to the public for help.

An amber alert was issued Monday night just after 7 p.m. for 7-year-old Luna and 8-year old Hunter Potts. It is believed there are with convicted pedophile 50-year old Benjamin Moore and their mother Leah Potts. Moore and Potts are in a common-law relationship according to RCMP and they all lived together in Eastend, Saskatchewan.

“We believe Luna and Hunter are in danger in the presence of Benjamin Moore and we want to locate them as quickly as possible,” stated Saskatchewan Chief Superintendent Tyler Bates.

RCMP can’t go into specifics but say evidence was discovered when Shaunavon RCMP were asked to assist Social Services in an investigation into allegations surrounding Benjamin Moore.

Moore, Leah Potts and the children had vacated their home in Eastend before police could question him. As a result social services sought an apprehension order for the children which led to RCMP issuing the amber alert six days later. Bates says as soon as the apprehension order was received the amber alert was issued.

Bates stated that “Benjamin Moore has a history of sexual offenses against children, vulnerable persons, and has also been previously convicted of sexual interference and possession of child pornography.”

A warrant has been issued for his arrest after police charged him with failing to update information relating to his residence within 7 days as required under the sex offender registry act.

It’s believed the four are travelling in a 2015 dark blue Chevy Equinox with Alberta license plate CGC-2492. It is believed they may be currently in South Dakota and RCMP are considering expanding the amber alert to that state.

RCMP say there are following up on a number of tips. One individual also came forward after the amber alert was issued to report an incident involving Moore to police. RCMP are encouraging anyone else who may have been a victim of Moore’s to come forward.
