A new holiday was declared by the provincial government earlier this year, Alberta Day, and the City of Grande Prairie is offering some free activities to celebrate.

On Saturday, September 3, there will be free public swim times, starting at 8 a.m. and going until 3 p.m., but in order to participate, you must pre-register, which can be done by clicking here.

The City will also have a free barbecue outside the Bonnetts Energy Centre from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and then will be followed up by a free skate and autograph signing with the Grande Prairie Storm till 6 p.m.

Alberta Day was declared a holiday this year by the provincial government and it is meant to commemorate when Alberta became a province on September 1, 1905.
