School zones are back in effect

Aug 31, 2022 | 7:04 AM

The City of Grande Prairie would like to remind residents that school zones are back in effect.

They are in effect any school day from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and the maximum speed is 30km/h.

Drivers are asked to be extra cautious in school zones and allow extra time in their commute for sudden stops and school drop-off traffic.

The City would also like to remind drivers that passing stopped vehicles in school zones is illegal and dangerous.

Parents and Guardians are asked to learn the school to locate drop-off zones, Grande Prairie Enforcement Services will be out during September looking for anyone illegally parked or stopped in a school zone.

Common school parking offenses include parking within 5 meters of a crosswalk or intersection, parking in a no-parking area, and parking on the wrong side of the street.

The City of Grande Prairie hopes everyone will obey traffic laws and have a safe and happy school year.
