Grande Prairie Fire Department hosting Push-In Ceremony for new engine

Aug 31, 2022 | 12:05 PM

The Grande Prairie Fire Department has a new engine, a 2022 Spartan Gladiator Classic Smeal Custom Pumper.

The Fire Department will be officially welcoming it into service with a Push-In Ceremony.

It is a tradition that dates back to the late 1800’s when firefighters used horse-drawn equipment and couldn’t back it into the fire station, so they would have to work together to push the carriage back into the station after each call.

This new machine provides Grande Prairie firefighters with multiple upgrades to help crews save more lives, such as:

  • Additional airbags and roll changes for protection in the event of a motor vehicle accident
  • Agronomical hose deployment and equipment storage
  • Added vehicle extraction tool for faster motor vehicle extrication
  • Lower emissions from battery-operated electric hand tools
  • Shorter turn radius of the vehicle for better access to certain neighborhoods

Residents are invited to witness the Push-In Ceremony on Monday, September 12, at 5:00 p.m. at the Pete Eager Fire Station.

The event will have food trucks on-site and offer guided tours of the station as well.
