Building on legislature grounds to be renamed for Queen Elizabeth II
The Alberta government will rename a building on the legislature grounds in Edmonton in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.
“This is a meaningful way for our province to celebrate the extraordinary reign of Queen Elizabeth II, and to ensure that Her late Majesty’s legacy of dedicated service and citizenship continues to inspire generations of Albertans to come,” says Lt.-Gov. Salma Lakhani in a statement.
The province says the Federal Building will become the Queen Elizabeth II Building. A ceremony will take place on Sept. 27 and permanent signage will be installed in the coming weeks.
The plan to rename the building was originally to recognize the Platinum Jubilee of Her late Majesty. Consent for the name change was provided to Alberta’s government by Buckingham Palace in early August.
