Grande Prairie By-Election

Brown taking a second run at city council seat

Sep 16, 2022 | 6:00 AM

Tammy Brown is taking another run at a seat on Grande Prairie City Council.

Brown will run in the October 17 by-election after running in the general election last fall.

Brown says the decision to run was a “no-brainer.”

“I was ready for it last year but over the last year I’ve really matured to the point to understand where I sit … and what I am able to contribute.”

Brown says her first campaign was “a learning experience all the way through” and she is sure she will learn many more new things this time.

She is one of eight candidates that has declared they are running.

“It’s a good thing for the city that we have such interest in running for (city council). It means that people want to contribute to their community. They want to contribute to the city itself, to making it grow and thrive.”

Brown says she wants to preserve the small town feel of Grande Prairie, support businesses and industries and keep city services current.

“I want to see and continue to advocate for economic development, creating jobs and opportunities within our area of Grande Prairie.”

Brown says she would also like to advocate for bringing health care workers to the city and wants what she terms “controlled and managed spending.”
