Number of opioid deaths in Grande Prairie down in July

The Alberta Government has reported on its second quarter of 2022 for the Alberta substance use surveillance system.
In the first seven months of this year, Grande Prairie has seen 24 drug poisoning deaths. Below is the breakdown with available causes for some:
- January – 4 (1 cocaine)
- February – 1 (methamphetamine)
- March – 6 (1 cocaine, 1 methamphetamine)
- April – 3
- May – 6 (1 alcohol, 2 methamphetamine, 1 benzodiazepine, 2 pharmaceutical opioids)
- June – 2 (1 cocaine)
- July – 2
In Alberta, 884 drug poisoning deaths have been recorded from January to July. The number of deaths per month has been declining since May in the province.
