Crooked Creek Donut Truck & Grande Prairie realtor raise over $2,000 for Rising Above Ministry

In conjunction with Rising Above Ministries Share-A-Thon last Wednesday, a local realtor decided to celebrate his birthday in a fun and delicious way to give back to the community.

Andrew Dyck teamed up with the Crooked Creek Donut Truck on September 21 and pledged to donate $2.50 from every Maple Dip Cream Donuts to the charity that helps people with addictions and/or personal struggles through faith-based counseling.

Dyck says he wanted to give back in a fun way.

“I wanted to have community involvement and get the name of Rising Above out there.”

“On a good day they (Crooked Creek Donut Truck) sell around 500 of that one specialty donut… the involvement just increased and it was crazy how many phone calls I got that day… people thought it was so funny they would go buy all these donuts and make me pay!”

He says they ended up selling out of the maple donuts, 940 to be exact.

“They had enough filling for two days… and they ended up using all of it in one day.”

$2,350 was donated by Dyck to Rising Above Ministry through the fundraiser and he says he would do it again.

“The support was huge, it was fun!”

He mentions the charity is near and dear to him as he is not afraid to admit he has taken advantage of their resources for his own small struggles, as well as friends and family.

“To hear their testimonies… it is just moving… I have to tear up every time. It’s such a strong healing that people get, as long as they’re willing to open up,” Dyck says.

Rising Above Ministry said in a Facebook post on September 23 that their total raised for their Share-A-Thon topped over $112,000.
