Maple Leafs sign defenceman Sandin to two-year contract extension

TORONTO — Defenceman Rasmus Sandin has signed a two-year contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs, the club announced on Thursday.

The deal will pay the 22-year-old Swede an average of US$1.4 million per season.

Sandin had 16 points in 51 games with the Leafs last season.

He was Toronto’s first-round pick, 29th overall, in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft,

The Uppsala, Sweden native has six goals and 22 assists through 88 career regular season games with the Maple Leafs while adding a goal in five career playoff appearances.

He won bronze with Sweden at the 2020 world junior hockey championship.
