City Council begins lobbying for equal electricity distribution and transmission rates

Oct 2, 2022 | 7:00 AM

Alberta Municipalities will begin lobbying for more equal electricity distribution and transmission rates.

Mayor Jackie Clayton says in a news release “One of the number one concerns council has been hearing about, is the escalating costs of electricity distribution and transmission rates.”

Clayton adds ” We are pleased that the vast majority of Alberta municipalities agreed with us that there needs to be a major change to how these rates are distributed across the province. We welcome their support in our advocacy efforts.”

As a result of the vote, Alberta municipalities will begin actively lobbying for the provincial government to make changes to the pre-existing distribution and transmission system.

The ATCO service area Grande Prairie is in sees the highest delivery rates in the province with annual charges averaging $1’347 compared to Calgary or Edmonton which average $548.
