Oct 18, 2022 | 6:00 AM

The City of Grande Prairie is hosting a two-week-long event at the Community Knowledge Campus called Free Sport Sampler Days.

From October 29 to November 12, excluding Halloween (October 31) and Remembrance Day, (November 11) a new activity will be offered for residents 16 and older to encourage the community to adopt a healthy lifestyle and try new activities.

The activities residents can take part in will include:

  • Water polo with the Eastlink Centre
  • Introduction to Yoga with the Eastlink Centre
  • Hip Hop with the Eastlink Centre
  • Introduction to Cycle with the Eastlink Centre
  • Introduction to the fitness centre with the Eastlink Centre
  • Introduction to the functional fitness area (South Concourse) with the Eastlink Centre
  • Pickleball with Grande Prairie Pickleball Club
  • Diving with Shantara Dive Services
  • Skating with Grande Prairie Skating Club
  • Swimming with Fossils Master Swim Club. Participants must be comfortable swimming in the deep end of the pool for this program.
  • Artistic swimming with Grande Prairie Synquatics Club
  • Squash with Grande Prairie Squash Club
  • Kayaking with Wapiti Whitewater Kayakers
  • Racquetball with Alberta Racquetball Association

Most activities will only have a one-time slot and take place in the evenings, with the ability to accommodate six to 20 people.

Mayor Jackie Clayton said in a press release from the city, “We’re looking forward to providing this style of event to a new demographic, who does not typically have the same opportunity to try out new activities in a free, fun and non-committal environment.”

Pre-registration is required to participate, click here for more information and to register for sessions.

After the event is over there will be a large resignation event for adults to sign up for different CKC groups, clubs, or memberships.
