Wildfire hazard rating downgraded but fire advisory remains in place

Oct 25, 2022 | 12:14 PM

Recent precipitation and cooler temperatures have led the province to downgrade the wildfire hazard in the Grande Prairie forest management area to moderate.

However, a fire advisory still remains in place, meaning all fire permits are currently suspended with the exception of burn barrels, incinerators, smudges, and smokehouse permits.

Safe wood campfires, backyard fire pits, portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves and barbecues, and catalytic or infrared-style heaters are also still allowed.

There are currently two active wildfires in the region, with both listed as being under control.

In total, there have been 80 wildfires in the Grande Prairie forest management area this year, burning 105 hectares of land.
