Teachers’ Association says it’s ‘irresponsible’ for Smith to say no to school mask mandates

EDMONTON, AB – The president of the Alberta Teachers Association is reacting to Premier Danielle Smith’s vow to not allow any further masking mandates of children in schools.

Jason Schilling says in a news release that it is “irresponsible” to take off the table any protective measures that might allow schools to safely operate and limit the spread of disease.

Smith made the promise on Saturday, October 29, 2022, when responding to a Court of King’s Bench ruling that said the United Conservative government’s rescinding of mask mandates in schools earlier this year violated the law and was unreasonable.

Schilling says COVID-19 has proven itself to be remarkably adaptable, and that we should expect the same from government.
